Every time I don’t take photos for a little while, I start to lose a bit of spark in life. Creating artography makes me feel so happy! There has been soo much rain this past month, along with the business of life leading up to Christmas, and I was missing my camera like crazy. As soon as my hubby Ben got home from work on his last day before the holidays, Isi and I escaped for a bit and found a beautiful new location just around the corner from our house. She was so happy to come out with me and I was so happy to have such a beautiful and willing model to ‘play’ with. What a happy afternoon, my heart is full again :)

I’ve been meaning to get some more photos of Eden for a while, he’s been going through a very cheeky stage and will. not. sit. still! lol Today he was playing around in his room instead of having his nap and Jyrah was asleep downstairs so I decided to bring the camera up to his room and try to catch the real Eden. He makes me smile from the inside out, he’s just so cheeky and silly and beautifully warm natured. Love him! I’m also loving his room as a possible makeshift studio space for newborns, the light in there is really good and to set up the newborn gear on top of his bed would be perfect <3
Anyway, here is my beautiful cheeky little man:)

Israelle

We’ve had 5 years with her and in that time she’s been given many names, but there are two that we are NOT ALLOWED to call her under any circumstances. “My baby” or “little girl” because “I’m not little, I’m BIG!”
It has been a running argument in our house for the last 2 years, I refuse to let go and she refuses to let me hold on hehe.
I can’t believe she is already 5, it seems like only yesterday we were trying so hard to have her, and now I can’t imagine her ever not being around.
I love you so much my little baby girl!
(she won’t be reading this, so I think I’ll get away with it this time :p)

Today was a very important date for us, not only was it the very first day of spring with all the beauty and warmth and sunshine today had..

Today is a very special date for our little princess Israelle Hope who was very excited to finally turn five! And to celebrate, My Mum (Nonna) and I took her out on a ‘date’ to have her very first hot chocolate!! Something she has been looking forward to for ages, we don’t allow our children to have any sugar or chocolate normally because it really effects their behaviour. But today was a very special day and our princess enjoyed a very special date with us :)

and here it is, her very first hot chocolate, complete with marshmellow..

her first taste, straight for the marshmellow, and this is the look she gets when she is really enjoying something..

all gone, she loved it!

and then we went for a little walk, she really missed her Nonna who just got back from a 3 month overseas trip

I will be doing a more formal birthday session with Isi in the next few days, but for now, I couldn’t resist sharing our very special ‘date’ :)

The temperature is slightly warmer, the sun is shining for a tiny bit more in the day (or so it feels like), and flowers are beginning to bud. Today was such a beautiful blue-skied day, there was a strong aroma of wattle wafting in the air as Isi and I went for a little walk down the street for a little mini shoot… ahhh I love it :) Another very special event that just happens to coincide with the first day of Spring, Isi’s birthday! And this year she will be 5! Wow I can’t believe how fast these years have flown!!

she is even looking older, naw my princess..

and a real smile, peek-a-boo!

So today, I got out the camera and tried again to catch his beautiful face. He moves so fast and is so strong-willed, he refuses to do anything unless it was his idea first. So the toy on the lens totally didn’t work today, he’s too clever to be fooled again hehe. So, I swiped his beloved vice… the dummy! And yes it is pink, they ran out of blue ones at the store ok, that’s the story and we’re sticking to it! :p

So here he is, a seemingly peaceful child, a tender moment, cuddling a doll. Never mind the reality that he snatched it from his sister seconds before and only sat there for a couple of seconds before dropping the doll and going after the next thing that catches his eye.

And then I did it, I swiped the dummy, he thought it was funny… and said “dah-ee” (dummy)

Great it worked (kinda) so I tried it again… this time, he was not so amused and the tone of “dah-ee” was very different… hehe

Isn’t he adorable!
And so, the quest continues.. no way I’m giving up :)

The word mesmerised just IS this photo. In an attempt to get and keep Jyrah’s attention long enough to compose a shot, I attached a toy to my lens. So the look on his face is just that, mesmerised.. hehe. But this photo has also got me mesmerised, I just can’t stop looking at it, he is just so perfectly perfect to me, I love him so so much!

For the first time since this crazy photography adventure (read obsession) began, I’m finding myself in a place of rest and contentment. I’m not so frantically researching and learning everything I can.. I just feel happy to potter around for a bit and keep taking photos of my own kids. I don’t know why this has come about, but I’m enjoying the rest and secretly hoping to uncover more of the art of photography and focus less on the technique.
The timing is even funnier because I have every reason to be even more obsessed right now because just last week we finally bought my dream camera, one I have been fanticizing about using ever since I knew it existed. It will take me places beyond my last camera was limited to, very exciting development indeed! I’m looking forward to exploring the artistic potentials on a whole new level. Here are some of my first shots with my new baby..

Once again, the photos are mainly of Isi haha.. I do have other kids, they just keep hiding from the camera! But I’ll keep on chasing for those precious captured memories :) My next target is Jyrah, he’s 18 months now and so so quick, but I will catch him, I will..
Here is one I caught today, my little cutie!

This week I stumbled upon some truly amazing photos by other photographers. My heart soared as I gazed upon image after image of perfect amalgamations where fine and contemporary arts meet digital photography. This is exactly what I want to do, my skills aren’t there yet, but I am learning new things each day and one day I hope to produce quality works of art that are imaginative and thought provoking and above all…. inspired.
